The USA500 index rose 0.07% on Monday. U.S. stocks closed mostly higher Monday after a choppy session as a round of U.S.-China tariff negotiations in Beijing commenced and as the threat of another partial government shutdown loomed. The latest round of trade negotiations between the U.S. and China began Monday with working-level talks in Beijing, while Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer are due to arrive Thursday for more high-level discussions. Among the winners, American Express rose 0.85%, while Cisco Systems was up 0.83%. Walmart Inc. rose 0.65%. Among the losers, Walt Disney fell 1.86%, while Pfizer lost 1.30%. Apple Inc. was down 0.58%.
