In 2020, the world sold around 63.8 million cars. The estimates say that around 6.5 million electric vehicles (EVs) were sold worldwide in 2021, up 109% from 2020. EV sales represent around 9% of all passenger car sales in 2021. The EV sector increased its market share from 4.11% in 2021 to around 9.00% off the global car sales.

MARKET POTENTIAL: ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EV) ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE UP AROUND 50% OF GLOBAL CAR SALES BY 2030. The 2021 figures of 287.36 billion dollars are an increase of around 76% from 2020’s 160.01 billion dollars. Expecting this number to grow to 823.75 billion dollars, the EV market should be growing annually on average by 18.6%.

CHINA LEADS THE WAY (2021): EV MAKES AROUND 13% OF THE CAR MARKET IN CHINA, UP FROM 3.5% IN 2020: More than half of the total electric vehicles (EVs) sold worldwide last year (including plug-in hybrids) went to buyers in China. Total number of cars sold in 2021 in China was 26.28 million, and EV made around 13% of the market.

MARKET SHARE CHINA: Tesla is the largest EV company in China, holding some 14% of the markets, followed by GM’s Wulling (~11.8%) and BYD (~10%).

ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN CHINA ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE UP 40% OF CHINA’S CAR SALES BY 2030. Total car sales are expected to grow to 38 million in 2030, while around 15 million (or 40%) will be Electric Vehicles.

EVENT: STOCK SPLIT (AUGUST 4, 2022), BUT DETAILS ABOUT THE SIZE AND MORE SHOULD BE KNOWN TO THE SHAREHOLDERS SOME 40 DAYS BEFORE THE VOTE (~JUNE 23, 2022). The shareholders are expected to meet on August 4, 2022 and approve the split. After the first stock split in 2020, the stock rose 13.25% the very first day of the announcement (August 11, 2020). From August 11 to August 31 (when the split took effect), the stock went up by 61.18% to test back then a fresh all time high of $2317.98 a share.

NEWS: SHANGHAI GIGA-FACTORY REACHES PRE-LOCKDOWN OUTPUT. Tesla’s gigafactory in Shanghai has implemented a two-shift working system as lockdowns continue to ease in Shanghai. The factory is now producing ~2300 cars per day, returning to pre-lockdown output. During the lockdown it was producing fewer than 200 vehicles.

EVENT: TESLA STARTS TAKING ORDERS FOR SEMI-TRUCK: Tesla has announced that it will be taking orders for its new Semi-Truck.

EVENT: TESLA DEBT (CREDIT) RATING TO BE UPGRADED TO INVESTMENT GRADE FROM NON- INVESTMENT GRADE. Once this is confirmed by the credit rating agencies such as the S&P 500 credit rating agency, more fund managers will become eligible to buy the Tesla stock.

ANALYSTS OPINIONS: Goldman Sachs forecasts $1200 a share. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives lowered Tesla’s Price Target from $1,400 to $1000. Morgan Stanley forecasts $1300. Deutsche Bank forecasts $1250. Credit Suisse’s forecast is $1125 a share. Bank of America raised the Tesla Price Target from $1,100 to $1,300.
