NEWS (APRIL 4): ELON MUSK DISCLOSED HE HAS ACQUIRED A 9.2% STAKE IN TWITTER: On April 4th, 2022, it was disclosed that Elon Musk, Founder and CEO of Tesla, had acquired a 9.2% stake in Twitter. Mr. Musk has openly discussed starting his own censor-free social media site.
NEWS (APRIL 14): ELON MUSK MADE A PUBLIC OFFER TO BUY THE REMAINING SHARES OF TWITTER FOR $54.20 A SHARE. On April 14th, 2022, Elon Musk made a public offer to buy the remaining share of Twitter for $54.20 per share, to bring his personal stake up to 100%. On April 15th the Twitter Board of Directors declared this was too low and took steps to make it harder for Musk to gain a larger stake without their consent. Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, and a current shareholder of nearly 3% called the Twitter board out as the ‘Consistent dysfunction of the company.’
NEWS (APRIL 25): Twitter agreed to sell itself to Musk for his original offer of $54.20 a share. Musk said he would prioritize free speech on the site, open-source its algorithms, eliminate spam and add new features. Twitter said it expected the deal to close in 2022.
NEWS (May 13 to May 16): Musk tweets that the Twitter deal is “Temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users.” Twitter’s stock immediately tumbled to $35 pre-market. Over the weekend Musk appeared in a podcast on Monday the 16th and said a Twitter deal is not out of the question, but at a lower price.
