MOVIE AND ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY:
- MARKET SIZE (2022-2030): INCREASE FROM $95.45 BILLION TO $169.68 BILLION. On average the market could be expected to grow by little over 7% each year until 2030.
- MARKET SHARE (2022): Disney held 27% of the US and Canada box office in 2022. Second in line was Universal Pictures holding 22%. Paramount and Warner Brothers were in third and fourth place with roughly 13% each.
WALT DISNESY (ANALYSIS AND EVENTS)
- THE COMPANY: Disney is a global entertainment company with operations in media networks, resort theme parks. studio production, and direct-to-consumer streaming products. 76% of Disney’s revenue is from film and television, 24% is from its theme park business.
- EVENT (February 8, AFTERMARKET): Q4 EARNINGS REPORT. Disney is scheduled to report their Q1 earnings on February 8th. They are expected to earn 75,5 cents per share, and post revenue of $23.37 billion.
- AVATAR 2: THE WAY OF WATER has brought in over 2 billion dollars since its premier in mid- December 2022. The movie is expected to be one of the OSCAR contenders and still to bring in in total more than $ 3 billion and became the most successful movie in the movie industry.
- SUBSCRIBER NUMBERS ROSE BY ~8% OR 12.1 MILLION IN 2022 TO 164.2 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS: Disney+ is a streaming service which offers movies and other entertainment online. It has 164.2 million subscribers from 108 countries, of which 12.1 million were added in the final quarter of 2022. According to DigitalTV Research analyst Simon Murray, Disney+ will have over 200 million subscribers by 2025.
PRICE ACTION:
- ANALYST OPINION: The consensus 12-month target is $124.52 according to Bloomberg. Citigroup set a price target of $145 on January 19th, 2023. Morgan Stanley set a price target of $115 on January 17th, 2023, and Wells Fargo set a price target of $125 on January 16th, 2023.
- THE STOCK HAS HAD A DOWNWARD CORRECTION OF AROUND 58% FROM ITS ALL- TIME HIGH OF $202.95 (March, 2021). The stock fell to its lowest rate since March 2020 to $84 (December, 2022). Disney was last trading around $108, and if a full recovery follows to recent all- time highs, the stock could see an upside of around 90%. However the price could also decline further.
