CAC 40 is a cap-weighted index that measures the value and performance of the top 40 equities listed in France, similar to the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the United States. It is one of the major national benchmarks of the Euronext (pan-European stock exchange group), which also includes Brussels' BEL20, Amsterdam's AEX and Lisbon's PSI-20. CAC 40 first began on December 31, 1987 with a base value of 1000. After reaching an all-time high of 7,000 during the dot-com boom, the index has since fallen drastically, yet in recent years still typically closes within the 3500-4500 markers. On the Fortrader platform, you can trade on the CAC quote by purchasing long or short CFD contracts. The index’s trading hours are in accordance with Euronext Paris’s opening hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30 CET.
