United Utilities Group PLC (UU) is the largest listed water company in the UK. It was founded in 1995 through a merger between North West Water and NORWEB. This followed the privatization of ten Regional Water Authorities in England and Wales in 1989. Through its subsidiary, United Utilities Water, UU manages the water network in North West England. It currently owns some 55,000 hectares of land surrounding its reservoirs. Guidance from OFWAT in December 2017, the British regulator has recently affected water utilities which have not kept up with most companies record high share prices.
