SPACE TOURISM
- INDUSTRY: Relatively new industry and the participants in this industry have pledged to take ordinary people up to space using their technology and spaceships.
- MARKET PLAYERS: Virgin Galactic (Richard Branson), Blue Origin (Jeff Bezos) and SpaceX (Elon Musk) are the most prominent companies which could be expected to take tourists in space already in 2023.
VIRGIN GALACTIC
- THE COMPANY: Virgin Galactic is developing space vehicles and building a commercial space tourism service to take private citizens into space.
- CURRENT NUMBER OF RESERVATIONS: 800+. Many of them were purchased at a price of $250,000, before the company decided to raise the ticket price to $450,000 and now $1,000,000 for the two remaining VSS UNITY flights for 2024.
- PROJECTED REVENUE PER FLIGHT: $2.7 million.
VIRGIN GALACTIC: NEWS AND EVENTS
- EVENT: NEXT FLIGHT (GALACTIC O6): JANUARY. The company is not flying in the month of December and has instead opted to set its sixth flight for January and one more in 2024 before pausing flights for the remainder of the year. These two flights are projected to generate revenue between $2-2.5m which is 4x than previous flights.
- NEWS: COST CUTTING AND NEW FLEETS - The company laid off 185 employees to cut costs and redirect resources to building new Delta spaceplanes which will have the ability to seat six people and fly twice per week and generate more revenue than the current Unity flights.
PRICE MOVEMENT:
- UPWARD MOMENTUM: The price of the stock reached an all-time low of $1.27 on October 27th 2023 and has since made an upward spike of 58.3% to $2.01 at the time of this report.
- This is the sixth of many such waves the stock has experienced since 2020 and the stock still has great upside potential since its all-time high of $62.80 (February 11, 2021) (2934%) and its 52-week high of $6.61 (228%). Although the price could potentially go down.
- The average duration of these waves is 64 days. This is now the nineteenth day of the wave.
