Weekly Special Report: EUR/USD
EVENTS (USA):
- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. NONFARM PAYROLLS (NFP) AND UNEMPLOYMENT RATE (SEPTEMBER). The U.S. labor market has shown a clear weakening trend over the past few years, with slower job creation and unemployment currently at 4.1%. The labor market will remain a key focus, and further weakness could reduce expectations of interest rate hikes, weighing on the U.S. dollar and supporting EUR/USD prices
- MONDAY, OCTOBER 5 AT 15:00 GMT+1: U.S. ISM NON-MANUFACTURING PMI (SEPTEMBER). Investors will also follow the ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI for further signs of the strength of the U.S. services sector, which accounts for most of the U.S. economy. A weaker than expected reading could increase weighing on the U.S. dollar and supporting EUR/USD prices.
- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9 AT 15:00 GMT: U.S. MICHIGAN CONSUMER SENTIMENT (OCTOBER). US consumer sentiment fell to 48.1 in September from 55.2 in July. If the index shows further weakness in October, this could revive concerns about the US economy, potentially having a negative impact on the US dollar.
EVENTS (EUROPE):
- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 AT 10:00 GMT+1: EUROZONE INFLATION (CPI) (SEPTEMBER). Eurozone inflation currently stands at 3.2%. However, a higher-than-expected reading could support EUR/USD prices.
CENTRAL BANKS:
- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28: US FEDERAL RESERVE (FED) INTEREST RATE DECISION. The US Fed is scheduled to meet next on October 28 and will announce its latest interest rate decision. The press conference, hosted by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh. The Fed’s benchmark rate currently stands at 4.00%, and it remains unclear how many rate cuts may follow in 2026, if any. Each upcoming Fed meeting provides investors with an opportunity to assess what lies ahead in terms of monetary policy in the U.S. economy.
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29: EUROPEAN CENTRAL BANK (ECB) INTEREST RATE DECISION. The European Central Bank (ECB) is set to meet next on October 29 and will announce its latest interest rate. The press conference, hosted by President Christine Lagarde. The ECB’s benchmark rate currently stands at 2.65%, and there are rising chances of a rate hike after headline inflation in the Eurozone increased to 3.2% in August from 2.9% in July.
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS:
- BREAKING (OCTOBER 1): EUR/USD PRICE HIT ITS LOWEST RATE SINCE MAY 2025 (1.12641). EUR/USD has fallen amid a stronger US dollar, pushing the pair down to its lowest level in one year and four months.
- SUPPORT AREA: 1.1300 – 1.1200. After breaking below the 1.1400 mark earlier this week and testing a fresh 16-month low, EUR/USD has now tested its next support area between 1.1300 and 1.1200. However, a move to lower prices remains possible if this support is broken.
