Weekly Special Report: PALLADIUM
PALLADIUM USE AND MARKET SHARE:
- TOP PALLADIUM INDUSTRIES: Palladium is primarily used in automotive catalytic converters, which account for approximately 81% of global demand. These devices reduce harmful emissions from gasoline-powered vehicles and hybrid cars. Other important applications include electrical and electronics manufacturing (5.3%), chemical production (5.1%), investment (3.8%), and dental and biomedical applications (1.6%). Palladium is also used in hydrogen purification technologies, fuel cells, sensors and specialised industrial equipment.
- TOP PALLADIUM PRODUCERS: Russia is the world's largest palladium producer, accounting for approximately 44% of global mine production, followed by South Africa (37%), Canada (8%), Zimbabwe (8%), the United States (3%), and other countries (around 2%). Russia and South Africa together account for approximately 80% of global mine production, making the market highly dependent on these two countries
- TOP PALLADIUM CONSUMERS: China is one of the largest individual palladium consumers, accounting for approximately 24% of global demand. Europe accounts for around 21%, North America 19%, Japan 10%, while the rest of the world accounts for approximately 26%. Demand is closely linked to automotive manufacturing, particularly in China, the United States, Japan and Germany.

U.S. LABOUR MARKET DATA:
- TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3 AT 15:00 GMT: U.S. JOLTS JOB OPENINGS (SEPTEMBER). U.S. job openings declined to 7.079 million in August, down from 7.335 million in July, indicating a cooling labor market. A lower-than-expected reading could signal further weakness in labor demand, potentially reducing expectations of higher interest rates and supporting palladium prices.
- WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4 AT 13:15 GMT: U.S. ADP NONFARM EMPLOYMENT CHANGE (OCTOBER). Private-sector employment increased by 90,000 in September, exceeding expectations. However, the latest forecast points to a slower increase of approximately 65,000 jobs in October. A weaker-than-expected reading could indicate slowing employment growth, potentially weighing on the U.S. dollar and supporting palladium prices.
- FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6 AT 13:30 GMT: U.S. NONFARM PAYROLLS (NFP) AND UNEMPLOYMENT RATE (OCTOBER). U.S. nonfarm payroll employment increased by only 29,000 in September, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.2%. Another weak employment report could reinforce concerns about a cooling U.S. labor market, potentially increasing expectations of a less restrictive Federal Reserve monetary policy, weighing on the U.S. dollar and supporting palladium prices.
