Weekly Special Report: SILVER
EVENTS:
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. RETAIL SALES (SEPTEMBER). This report measures the strength of consumer demand. A weaker result could put pressure on the U.S. dollar and provide support for silver. Retail sales increased by 1.2% in August.
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. PRODUCERS’ PRICE INDEX (PPI) (SEPTEMBER). Slower producer price growth could ease concerns about inflation and reduce expectations of further Fed rate hikes, potentially weakening the U.S. dollar and supporting silver. Annual headline PPI currently stands at 5.4%.
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. PHILADELPHIA FED MANUFACTURING INDEX (OCTOBER). The index tracks regional manufacturing conditions. A weaker reading could point to an economic slowdown, potentially putting downward pressure on the U.S. dollar and lifting silver prices.
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. WEEKLY INITIAL JOBLESS CLAIMS. An increase in new jobless claims could indicate further weakening in the U.S. labor market, potentially weighing on the U.S. dollar and providing support for silver.
U.S. FEDERAL RESERVE:
- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 AT 04:30 GMT+1: FEDERAL RESERVE (FED) CHAIR KEVIN WARSH SPEAKS. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is expected to take part in a fireside chat with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva during the IMF Annual Meetings. Market participants will pay close attention to any comments on the inflation outlook, monetary policy priorities and the potential direction of U.S. interest rates.
- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28 AT 18:00 GMT+1: U.S. FEDERAL RESERVE (FED) INTEREST RATE DECISION. The Federal Reserve’s benchmark interest rate currently stands at 4.00%, with financial markets anticipating no change at the October meeting. If the Fed maintains rates as expected, the market reaction will depend on its accompanying statement and guidance on future policy. A less hawkish tone could weaken the U.S. dollar and potentially support silver prices.
