GER40 edged higher today, with investors remaining confident despite concerns surrounding higher oil prices and slowing manufacturing activity data. The European Central Bank increased interest rates by 50 basis points last month, and signalled further hikes ahead with President Christine Lagarde stating last week that underlying inflation remains “significantly too high”. How much further the ECB goes is likely to be data dependent, and German exports posted their biggest monthly rise since June in February, according to data released earlier Tuesday, adding to evidence that the euro zone's largest economy may avoid recession in the first quarter of the year.
