The USD/JPY inched lower on Thursday. It is 109.56 at midday in Europe. Early in the session Japan released slightly below expectations Current Account figures. Yesterday the dollar pushed higher after CPI data for April came in higher than expected across the board. CPI for April rose 4.2%, Year-over-Year. The consensus forecast was 3.6%. Core CPI for April was up 0.9%, Month-over-Month. Analysts had estimated 0.3%. The consensus forecasts were 11.6% and 0.7% respectively. The United States will release Initial Jobless Claims and PPI figures at 13:30 today.
