The ISM Manufacturing PMI previous print was 55.6. The number was lower than the expected 53.3.

The Bank of Canada (BoC) will meet to set interest rates. In July rates were left unchanged at 2.25%. The bank is most likely to keep rates unchanged in September.

Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) fell by 23,000, significantly below the forecast of 85,000. The previous month (July) saw unemployment decline to 4.1%.

The OPEC+V7 meeting will be held (Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman). At the meeting last month the cartel added 188,000 bpd to production and have now fully unwound voluntary cuts introduced in 2023. Expectations are that at this meeting OPEC will make no change to production for October.

Apple will hold its annual event (this year called ‘Surprise and Shine’) and is expected to release its latest iPhone 18 and to unveil its first- ever foldable smartphone: iPhone Ultra. The latest series of Apple Watches and Airpods are also likely to be teased.

The European Central Bank will meet to discuss interest rates. Rates are currently at 2.40% after a rate increase of 25 basis points in June. Market expectations are that the ECB might decide to raise interest rates by 25 basis points this month.

Headline Inflation (CPI) for July came in at 3.4%. Core Inflation (CPI) (excluding food and energy) was 2.5% in July.

Month-over-Month Retail Sales was at -0.6 % in July, lower than the expected 0.1%.

The US Federal Reserve (Fed) will conclude its 2-day meeting to decide on interest rates. The current rate stands at 3.75%. Analysts expect the rate to remain at 3.75%.

The Bank of England (BoE) will meet to decide on interest rates. The current rate stands 3.75% and expectations are that rates will likely remain unchanged in September.

The Bank of Japan (BoJ) will meet to set its interest rates. In June the bank raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 1.00%. Current expectations are that the bank is expected to increase rates to 1.25% at this meeting.

Trump's speech could affect market sentiment, particularly if he announces or comments on U.S. foreign policy toward Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, Russia, Ukraine, China, trade or sanctions.

Chinese President Xi will travel to the US to hold a summit with President Trump at the White House. They will discuss trade, AI issues, security, energy and foreign policy including Taiwan and the Middle East.

The RBA will meet to decide on interest rates. The current rate is 4.35%. Current expectations are that there is a chance that the RBA could hike rates by 25 basis points, but that it is more likely they will remain at current levels.
