- MIDDLE EAST TENSIONS RISE AS LATEST ROUND OF TALKS GETS POSTPONED. Oman, which has mediated the latest rounds of nuclear talks between Iran and the USA, said there will be delays in talks.
- U.S.A. WITHDRAWS FROM UKRAINE-RUSSIA PEACE NEGOTIATIONS: President Donald Trump has withdrawn the United States from formal peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
EVENTS:
- WEDNESDAY, MAY 7 AT 19:00 GMT+1: US FEDERAL RESERVE MEETING AND PRESS CONFERENCE: The Federal Open Market Committee of the U.S. The Federal Reserve will conclude its 2-day meeting to decide on interest rates. The current rate is 4.50%, after a 25-basis point cut in December. Analysts expect the rate to remain at 4.50% at this meeting, but a rate cut of 25 basis points is currently expected in June.
- THURSDAY, MAY 13, AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. INFLATION (CPI) (APRIL): A smaller-than-expected number could be supportive for the silver because then the Fed could be encouraged to lower interest rate cuts. This index measures the change in the price of the goods and services from the perspective of the consumer. Inflation in March came in at 2.4%, slightly less than expected.
ANALYST EXPECTATIONS
- UBS: The bank targets a price of $38.
- CITIGROUP: The bank targets a price of $40.
- J.P. MORGAN: The bank targets a price of $38.
PRICE ACTION
- ALL-TIME HIGH PRICE: $49.80. Silver jumped to $49.80 in 2011, during the debt crisis in Europe. Currently, Silver trades around $32.30 and if a full recovery is made, this could offer an upside potential of around 54%. However, the price could decline.
