Weekly Special Report: SILVER
EVENTS:
- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. INFLATION (CPI) (SEPTEMBER). The latest U.S. inflation figures will be closely monitored for their potential impact on the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook. A lower-than-anticipated reading could ease expectations of additional interest rate hikes, putting downward pressure on the U.S. dollar and potentially benefiting silver prices. Annual headline CPI inflation in the U.S. currently stands at 3.4%.
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. RETAIL SALES (SEPTEMBER). The upcoming retail sales report will provide further insight into the resilience of U.S. consumer demand. A weaker-than-expected result could point to a loss of momentum in economic activity, potentially weakening the U.S. dollar and providing support for silver prices. In August, retail sales increased by 1.2% month-on-month.
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 13:30 GMT+1: U.S. PRODUCER PRICE INDEX (PPI) INFLATION (SEPTEMBER). The PPI report will offer additional insight into price pressures at the producer level across the U.S. economy. A softer-than-expected figure could ease concerns about persistent inflation and lower expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes, potentially pressuring the U.S. dollar and supporting silver prices. Annual headline PPI inflation in the U.S. currently stands at 5.4%.
U.S. FEDERAL RESERVE:
- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 AT 04:30 GMT+1: FEDERAL RESERVE (FED) CHAIR KEVIN WARSH SPEAKS. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is expected to take part in a fireside chat with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva during the IMF Annual Meetings. Market participants will pay close attention to any comments on the inflation outlook, monetary policy priorities and the potential direction of U.S. interest rates.
- WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28 AT 18:00 GMT+1: U.S. FEDERAL RESERVE (FED) INTEREST RATE DECISION. The Federal Reserve’s benchmark interest rate currently stands at 4.00%, with financial markets anticipating no change at the October meeting. If the Fed maintains rates as expected, the market reaction will depend on its accompanying statement and guidance on future policy. A less hawkish tone could weaken the U.S. dollar and potentially support silver prices.
U.S. MIDTERM ELECTIONS AND SILVER PRICE ACTION:
- U.S. MIDTERM ELECTIONS: NOVEMBER 3, 2026. Midterm elections are held halfway through a U.S. president’s four-year term. On November 3, voters will elect all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 members of the Senate. The outcome will determine which party controls each chamber of Congress for the next two years. President Donald Trump is a Republican, and the Republican Party currently holds narrow majorities in both chambers, with 219 seats in the House and 53 in the Senate.
- SILVER’S HISTORICAL PERFORMANCE DURING U.S. ELECTION YEARS. Historical data show that silver prices increased in 9 of the 13 U.S. presidential election years since 2000, recording an average price increase of 13.7% across those years.
- SILVER’S PERFORMANCE DURING MIDTERM ELECTION YEARS. Silver prices advanced in 4 of the 6 U.S. midterm election years since 2000, with an average annual price increase of 17.9%.
