In the European session, the German Benchmark Index traded slightly lower, above 18,500 levels.

European stocks were higher on Wednesday, although sentiment remained cautious ahead of two major elections.

Investors are preparing for national parliamentary elections in the U.K. on Thursday and in France on Sunday.

The German Benchmark index DAX was up 1.12%.
