- Moderna, Inc. a clinical stage biotechnology company, develops therapeutics and vaccines based on messenger RNA (new technology) for the treatment of infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. They are one of the largest suppliers of Covid- 19 vaccine in the world, holding an efficacy rate of around 95%. More than 800 million doses have been already ordered worldwide.
- EVENT: MODERNA TESTS COVID- 19 VACCINE ON POPULATION BELOW 17 YEARS OF AGE. FIRST UPDATES COULD BE EXPECTED SOON: Moderna launched a trial at 12 to 17 years old. The largest population on Earth (around 30%) is below 17 so if all goes well this could prove to be a big market for Moderna. Moderna has also begun (March 16) testing its Covid-19 vaccine in children aged 6 months to 11 years of age.
- INDIA AND EU TO INCREASE MODERNA COVID-19 VACCINE ORDERS?: The central government in India (1.3 billion of population) announced a change in its policy (April 13). This new policy potentially opens the door for Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. The European Union, on the other hand, will shortly sign contracts to purchase up to 1.8 billion doses of coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer and Moderna.
- ASTRAZENECA AND JOHNSON AND JOHNSON COVID- 19 VACCINE ISSUES TO CREATE BIGGER MARKET FOR MODERNA COVID-19 VACCINE: Many EU countries including France, Germany and Italy, restricted their use of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine due to blood clotting issues. In the U.S., Johnson and Johnson vaccine has been suspended by the US FDA on Tuesday (April 13) due to blood clot issues as well.
- VACCINE DAY UPDATES (April 14): MODERNA TO USE THEIR TECHNOLOGY TO DEVELOP OTHER THAN COVID-19 VACCINES. Moderna offered an update on studies of its mRNA vaccine candidates in a range of illnesses, including flu, HIV and other viruses. Moderna expects to start Phase I trials of a flu vaccine candidate and a HIV vaccine candidate in 2021.
- PRICE ACTION: Moderna hit a fresh all- time high of $218 in January 2021. At the moment it trades around 30% below its all- time high ($160).
