USD/JPY weekly special report based On 1.00 Lot Calculation:
- EVENT (APRIL 14, Friday at 13:30 GMT+1): US RETAIL SALES DATA FOR MARCH. The monthly data is expected to show a decline of 0.4%, which could be another indication that the US economy is weakening. This could signal the Fed could stop raising rates and start thinking of cutting them in order to avoid bigger negative impact on the economy. This way the US dollar could continue to lose value.
- US INTEREST RATES ARE EXPECTED TO FALL LATER THIS YEAR TO TARGET THE RANGE OF 4.25%- 4.50%. CURRENT RATE: 5.00% (SOURCE: CMEGROUP.COM). The US Federal Reserve is expected to meet next on May 3, 2023. Having in mind that inflation continued to fall in the USA (down from 9.1% in the summer of 2022 to March 2023’s 5.00%), the markets predict that the US Fed will soon start cutting interest rates in order to avoid a recession. The Fed policymakers have already said that a mild recession is on its way later this year. Lower interest than current could reduce demand for the US dollar, meaning the US dollar could continue to lose value in the period ahead.
- EVENT (APRIL 28): BANK OF JAPAN INTEREST RATE DECISION. Japan's government named academic Kazuo Ueda as its pick to become next central bank governor. Ueda, the first ever academic to captain the BOJ, is largely expected to speed up the pace of policy tightening sometime later this year. JAPAN’S INFLATION AT 41- YEAR HIGH UP AT 4%. The Central Bank’s target is 2%. The Tokyo Inflation rose to 4.4% from 4.0%, which is the highest in 42 years. This could push the Central Bank to reduce stimulus, which in turn could support the Japanese Yen.
