PLATINUM Weekly Special Report based on 1 Lot Calculation:
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS:
- DAILY MOVING AVERAGES (MA) CONFIRM UPTREND: The 20-day moving average (red) has turned higher, signaling short-term positive momentum, while the 50-day moving average (blue) is also below the current platinum price. With price trading above both averages, the sentiment is expected to remain positive.
- UPTREND STRUCTURE: The rising trend line remains intact (Black line), and the recent bounce from both 20-day MA and 50-day MA support underlines the strength of the uptrend. As long as platinum holds above these supports, the overall outlook stays constructive with potential for further upside. However, there remains a risk of a potential breakout below this level if market conditions change.
- PRICE ACTION: Platinum price hit an all-time high of 2,300 (March 2018). Currently, platinum price is trading around $1,646, and if a full recovery follows the previous all-time high, platinum prices then could see an upside potential of 39%. Although prices could decline, too.

PLATINUM USE AND MARKET SHARE:
- PLATINUM has been a key element in auto catalysts for over forty years, especially for diesel engines, and is increasingly vital in hydrogen fuel cells. The automotive sector is its largest consumer, accounting for about 40% of annual demand.
- MARKET SHARE (PRODUCERS): BIGGEST PLATINUM PRODUCERS IN THE WORLD: South Africa is the largest producer, holding 72.8% of the global market share, while Russia is the second with 8-10% of the market. Zimbabwe is third with 5%.
- MARKET SHARE (CONSUMERS): China is the world's largest platinum consumer, with 34%, while Europe holds 22, and North America 16% of the platinum consumed worldwide.
SUPPLY CONSTRAINTS
- THE WORLD PLATINUM INVESTMENT COUNCIL SEES AN 850,000 OUNCES OF DEFICIT IN 2025 as South African producers face a lack of energy and underinvestment, while recycling volumes are weak. The platinum market has remained in persistent deficit in recent years, about 878,000 troy ounces in 2023, widening to 995,000 ounces in 2024, and projected at 850,000 ounces in 2025. Despite a slight narrowing, supply remains well below demand, suggesting that the structural shortfall is set to continue supporting prices in the years ahead.
TRADE: OPTIMISM PREVAILS
- US PRESIDENT TRUMP AND CHINA PRESIDENT XI HAD AGREED TO MEET AT APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) SUMMIT IN SOUTH KOREA (OCTOBER 31- NOVEMBER 1): The two presidents held a phone call on September 19, described as positive and constructive, and agreed to meet in person at the upcoming APEC Summit in South Korea. Progress in trade talks between the two countries could further improve the future platinum demand outlook and, therefore, a positive reaction in the platinum prices could be expected.
EVENTS:
- MONDAY, OCTOBER 13 AT 05:00 GMT+1: CHINA TRADE BALANCE AND EXPORT/IMPORT DATA (SEPTEMBER). A stronger-than-expected trade surplus, particularly if driven by resilient industrial export and import figures, could reinforce expectations of steady Chinese platinum demand, support prices, and potentially extend the recent rebound. Conversely, a weaker outcome could pressure prices lower. China remains the world’s largest platinum consumer, making this data especially significant.
