GLOBAL EV MARKETS:
- ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EV) MADE AROUND 18% OF TOTAL CAR SALES IN 2023: The EV sector increased its market share from around 4% in 2020 to around 18% of global car sales in 2023.
- MARKET POTENTIAL: ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EV) COULD BE EXPECTED TO TAKE UP AROUND 50% OF GLOBAL CAR SALES BY 2030. In 2020, the market was worth 160.01 billion dollars. Expecting this number to grow to 823.75 billion dollars by 2030, the EV market could grow annually on average by 18.6%.
TESLA: THE COMPANY
- Tesla produces the Model 3, Model X, Model Y, Model S and since recently, the Cybertruck. Tesla also delivers the Semi- Truck.
- Tesla is still the largest seller of pure battery-powered Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the world and an absolute leader in the US (taking up between 60%- 70% market share).
TESLA: EVENTS AND ANALYSIS
- EVENT (TUESDAY, APRIL 23, AFTERMARKET): Q1 EARNINGS REPORT. Tesla is expected to report 22.35 billion dollars in revenue and a net income of 1.83 billion dollars. The company is expected to reveal plans over car sales for the period to come along with plans for further production expansion.
- EVENT (APRIL 22 – 28) ELON MUSK TO VISIT INDIA AND MEET PRIME MINISTER MODI. CEO Elon Musk will meet Modi in the week of April 22- 28 in New Delhi, and will separately announce his India plans. and investments worth 2 to 3 billion dollars. The company is expected to build its next gigafactory in India.
- EVENT (JUNE 13): TESLA SHAREHOLDER TO VOTE ON ELON MUSK’S COMPENSATION PLAN. According to Reuters, Tesla also said it will call a vote on moving the company’s state of incorporation to Texas from Delaware. The carmaker will convene its annual meeting on June 13.
- EVENT (AUGUST 8): TESLA TO UNVEIL “ROBOTAXI” ON AUGUST 8, 2024. Musk has said that Tesla will make a car without controls for a human to use. He has also said in the past that Tesla cars equipped with Full Self-Driving Capability will, through software updates, gradually become better and better at driving.
TESLA: OTHER ANALYSIS
- TESLA’S MODEL Y IS BEST SELLING CAR IN EUROPE FOR 2023: Tesla sold 251,604 Model Y in Europe in 2023, up 84% from the same period 2022. Model Y was ahead of Dacia Sandero, Volkswagen T-Roc, Renault Clio and Peugeot 208.
- TESLA WILL LAUNCH A NEW MODEL IN 2025: The model is expected to be the cheapest Tesla has ever offered and it could cost around $25,000.
- TESLA LAUNCHED ITS LATEST PRODUCT: CYBERTRUCK (NOVEMBER 30, 2023). According to Bloomberg, the Cybertruck comes in three configurations: rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and the so-called Cyberbeast. The cheapest version of the Cybertruck will cost $60,990, which is more than 50% over the price Musk floated when he announced the vehicle in 2019. EXPECTED DELIVERY IN 2024: 100,000 to 120,000. Tesla could deliver 100,000 or more Cybertrucks in 2024, and at least 240,000 in 2025.
TESLA: PRICE ACTION
- THE STOCK HAS TRADED AROUND 63% BELOW ITS ALL- TIME HIGH OF $414.4 (November 4, 2021). Tesla was last trading around $154, and if a full recovery follows to recent all- time highs, the stock could see an upside of around 169%. However, the price could decline further.
- TESLA TRADES AT ITS LOWEST SINCE APRIL 2023: Tesla has fallen recently to test its lowest price April 2023 ($153.27), down from its most recent top of $264.61 (December 28, 2023).
- ANALYSTS OPINIONS: Morgan Stanley forecasts $310. Wedbush forecasts $300. Barclays forecasts $180. Citigroup forecasts $180. Mizuho forecasts $195.
