- PLATINUM has been a key element in auto catalysts for over forty years, especially for diesel engines, and is increasingly vital in hydrogen fuel cells. The automotive sector is its largest consumer, accounting for about 40% of annual demand.
- MARKET SHARE (PRODUCERS): BIGGEST PLATINUM PRODUCERS IN THE WORLD: South Africa is the largest producer, holding 72.8% of the global market share, while Russia is the second with 8-10% of the market. Zimbabwe is third with 5%.
- MARKET SHARE (CONSUMERS): China is the world's largest platinum consumer, with 34%, while Europe holds 22%, and North America holds 16% of the platinum consumed worldwide.

- EVENT (THIS WEEK: DECEMBER 1 - DECEMBER 6): US - RUSSIA PEACE TALKS TO CONTINUE AS U.S. SPECIAL ENVOY STEVE WITKOFF WILL TRAVEL TO RUSSIA ON MONDAY (DECEMBER 1). President Trump said that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will visit Russia and will likely meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The president added that his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, may also join.

EVENTS:
- TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2 AT 01:00 GMT: FED CHAIR JEROME POWELL SPEAKS. Any dovish remarks from Powell, especially hints of additional interest rate cuts, would likely boost investor confidence and support platinum prices.
- THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4 AT 13:30 GMT: US WEEKLY INITIAL JOBLESS CLAIMS. A higher-than-expected jobless claims figure would indicate softening labor conditions, raising expectations for additional Fed rate cuts, which tend to support platinum prices.
- SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8 AT 03:00 GMT: CHINA TRADE BALANCE AND EXPORT/IMPORT DATA (NOVEMBER). A stronger-than-expected trade surplus, particularly if driven by resilient industrial demand and imports, could reinforce expectations of steady Chinese platinum demand, supporting prices.
US FEDERAL RESERVE:
- NEXT MEETING: DECEMBER 10 AT 19:00 GMT. The US Federal Reserve is expected to finish the year 2025 by cutting the rates to 3.75% on December 10.
- BREAKING (OCTOBER 29): US FEDERAL RESERVE CUT INTEREST RATE TO 4.00% FROM 4.25%. The Fed cut rates again in October after the one earlier in September. In total, this year, rates have fallen from 4.50% to the current 4.00%.
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS:
- DAILY MOVING AVERAGE (MA) CONFIRM UPTREND: Platinum price continues to trade above both the 50-day (red) and 100-day (green) moving averages, reinforcing a solid uptrend structure.
- UPTREND STRUCTURE: Price action remains firmly supported by the rising trendline (blue), which has been intact since early April 2025.
- PRICE ACTION: Platinum price hit an all-time high of $2,300 (March 2018). Currently, platinum price is trading around $1700, and if a full recovery follows the previous all-time high, platinum prices then could see an upside potential of 35%. Although prices could decline, too.
