AMD: THE COMPANY

AMD is a chipmaker itself. It is a major player in the Consumer Computing, Data Center and Gaming Markets. The market share for desktop CPU’s was around 28% in Q1 2025, for Laptop CPU’s it is 22.5% market share and 27% server unit share in Q1 2025. Furthermore, AMD supplies custom chips for Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Series X/s, contributing significantly to its gaming segment.

AMD: EVENTS

EVENT (TUESDAY, AUGUST 5, AFTERMARKET): Q2 EARNINGS REPORT. AMD is expected to print 7.428 billion in revenue, which should be 27% higher than the same quarter in the last year. A net income of 797.86 million is expected, which is 168% higher than the same quarter last year. Also, an Earnings Per Share of $0.487 is expected which is 170% higher than the same quarter last year.
AMD TENDS TO BEAT EXPECTATIONS: In the last 8 quarter, AMD has beat revenue (8 out of the last 8 times) and Net Income (6 out of the last 8 times).

AMD CREATES CHIPS FOR NEW AI – MEGALODON. AMD is partnering with Aligned and University of Southern California’s Information Sciences Institute to develop a large language model using AMD’s Instinct MI300 and MI325X GPU’s. The project aims to train the large language model on AMD’s hardware architecture.

AMD: TRADE WARS AT AN END

AMD FREE TO EXPORT INTO CHINA ONCE AGAIN. Since AMD is a chip manufacturer it is paramount that the Chinese market is open to it. AMD plans to restart shipments of its MI308 chips to China, after receiving approval from the US government. A potential rise of $800 million in revenue will happen if these chips start flowing freely into China – the biggest market in the world.

AMD: PRICE ACTION

THE STOCK HAS TRADED AROUND 21% BELOW ITS ALL-TIME HIGH OF 227.20 (March 8, 2024). AMD was last trading around $179, and if a full recovery follows to recent all- time highs, the stock could see an upside of around 27%. However, the price could decline further.
ANALYSTS OPINIONS: Arete Research forecasts $223. Susquehanna forecasts $210. Rosenblat Securities forecasts $200. HSBC forecasts $200.

UPTREND CHANNEL SINCE EARLY APRIL 2025: As depicted by the daily chart below, the AMD stock price has kept within the mid – term blue – lined uptrend channel, confirming its mid-term trend is up. The channel has been in place since early March 2025.
DAILY MOVING AVERAGES SIGNAL UPTREND: AMD stock price has moved above the 20 – day, 50-day and 100-day moving averages, indicating a continued uptrend. However, this trend could reverse if the prices drop below these key moving averages.
