GEOPOLITICS: TENSIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE REMAIN HIGH
- GREENLAND ISSUE: US PRESIDENT TRUMP ANNOUNCED 10% TARIFFS STARTING FEBRUARY 1 (JANUARY 18). The new tariffs are targeting Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland. Trade wars raise geopolitical tensions which may support the price of Gold. US Trump announced that tariffs of 10% will be implemented on certain European countries until Denmark allows the purchase of Greenland to the US. If Denmark does not agree by June 1, tariffs could rise to 25%. The European countries have stated that they will not be blackmailed, with EU retaliatory measures being prepared.
- MIDDLE EAST TENSIONS REMAIN HIGH: IRANIAN PROTESTS CONTINUE WITH STREET CLASHES AND THE DEATH TOLL RISING (JANUARY 19). The Iranian protests continue into their 23th day, with US navy military assets approaching the Middle-East. Given the importance of the entire region for energy commodity supply and the world economy, the potential for high geopolitical instability is rising.
WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM (WEF): DAVOS, SWITZERLAND
- EVENT (JANUARY 19 – JANUARY 23): WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM (WEF) IN DAVOS, SWITZERLAND. According to Investopedia, founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, the WEF is best known for its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, which brings together political leaders, business executives, economists, celebrities, and journalists to discuss pressing global, regional, and industry agendas. A record 400 top political leaders, including close to 65 heads of state and government, six G-7 leaders expected, nearly 850 of the world’s top CEO’s and more than 100 leading pioneers will convene in Davos this year.
- EVENT (WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21 AT 13:30 GMT): US PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP WILL DELIVER A SPEECH. US President Trump is expected to attend the event along with many other world leaders. According to CNBC, Trump's keynote speech on Wednesday is likely to focus heavily on concerns back home despite the international setting.
US FEDERAL RESERVE:
- WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28 AT 19:00 GMT: US FEDERAL RESERVE (FED) INTEREST RATE DECISION. The FED will be having their interest rate decision, with most analysts expecting the interest rate to remain unchanged. However, the FED’s forward guidance could influence the price of Gold as the markets are still uncertain how many times the FED will be cutting interest rates in 2026.
- BREAKING (WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2025): US FEDERAL RESERVE CUT THEIR INTEREST RATE TO 3.75% FROM THE PREVIOUS 4.00%. This is their third consecutive rate cut, following those on September 17 and October 29, 2025. It marks the lowest rate since September 2022.

OCTOBER 29, 2025: US FEDERAL RESERVE CUT INTEREST RATE TO 4.00% FROM 4.25%.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2025: US FEDERAL RESERVE CUT INTEREST RATE TO 4.25% FROM 4.00%.
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS AND PRICE ACTION:
- MID-TERM TREND IS UP. The overall trend of gold is up (dark blue trendline), since the beginning of 2025, with the trend accelerating since mid – August of 2025.
- GOLD PRICE HIT A NEW ALL-TIME HIGH ON JANUARY 18, 2026 ($4,690.30). Since the beginning of 2026, gold has risen by around 9%, adding to its 64% price increase in 2025. However, the price could also decline.
- ANALYSTS’ OPINION: Bank of America forecasts $5,000; Societe Generale forecasts $5,000; Goldman Sachs forecasts $4,900; J.P. Morgan forecasts $5,055; HSBC forecasts $5,000; UBS forecasts $5,000; Citigroup forecasts $5,000;
