Palladium weekly special report based on 1.00 Lot Calculation:
PALLADIUM USE AND MARKET SHARE:
- Palladium is mostly used in catalytic converters by the car industry to reduce harmful gas emissions, while tightening regulations are forcing automakers to put more Palladium into each vehicle, which in turn could keep the demand outlook positive. Palladium has also been used in fuel cells to generate power.
- MARKET SHARE (PRODUCERS): Russia is the largest producer, holding 43% of the market, while South Africa is the second largest with 33.00% of the market. Canada is third on the list with 9.5% of the global production.
- MARKET SHARE (CONSUMERS): China is the largest Palladium consumer with 31%, while Europe and North America (USA) hold 20% each. Japan stands at 11%.
TRADE WAR: TRUMP’S TARRIFS ON AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
- BREAKING (APRIL 29): US PRESIDENT TRUMP IS EXPECTED TO SOFTEN AUTO TARIFFS. POTENTIAL ANNOUNCEMENT TO BE MADE ON TUESDAY, APRIL 29: President Donald Trump's administration will move to reduce the impact of his automotive tariffs on Tuesday by alleviating some duties imposed on foreign parts in domestically manufactured cars and keeping tariffs on cars made abroad from piling on top of other ones. Easing of auto tariffs could boost U.S. vehicle production and sales, supporting industrial demand for palladium, which is widely used in catalytic converters.
EVENTS (CHINA):
- WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30 AT 02:30 GMT+1: CHINA MANUFACTURING PMI (APRIL): China will release its official Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for April. The previous reading was 50.5, a slight improvement from 50.2 in February, indicating mild expansion in factory activity. A stronger-than-expected reading could signal improving industrial demand in the world's largest consumer of palladium, potentially supporting higher prices. (PREVIOUS: 50.5, UP FROM 50.2)
EVENTS (USA):
- WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, AT 13:30 GMT+1: US GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP) (Q1): The U.S. will publish its Q1 GDP data, a broad measure of overall economic performance. A stronger-than-expected reading could indicate increased industrial activity and automotive demand, supporting higher palladium prices. (PREVIOUS:2.4%)
- WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, AT 19:00 GMT+1: US FEDERAL RESERVE MEERTING: The Federal Reserve will conclude its 2-day meeting to decide on interest rates. The current rate is 4.50%, after a 25-basis point cut in December. Analysts expect the rate to remain at 4.50% at this meeting, but a rate cut of 25 bps is currently expected in June. Lower interest rates could weaken the U.S. dollar and support demand for precious metals like palladium, potentially lifting its price.
PRICE ACTION:
- PALLADIUM HIT AN ALL-TIME HIGH OF $3,409 (MARCH 2022). Palladium trades around $939 and if the price of Palladium moves to the level of $3,409, this would be around 263% of a price change. However, the price could decline.
