“THE JANUARY EFFECT”
- EXPLAINED: According to Investopedia.com, the January Effect is the observed seasonal tendency for stock prices to rise in the first month of the year, often following a December sell-off for tax-loss harvesting. This usually happens as many investors sell losing stocks in December to reduce their taxes, and then buy them back in January. Also, at the start of the year people often invest new money, such as bonuses, savings, or retirement contributions, which increases demand for stocks. Over the last three years, during the current bull stock market, USA500 has risen by an average of 3.06% in January.
