Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), commonly referred to simply as “DOW 30”, is a spin-off of the Dow Jones Transportation Average, a stock market index that tracks U.S.-based transportation corporations, and is considered the oldest index in the country. The industrial average includes a basket of 30 US-based publicly traded companies having the highest market value. Dating back to 26 May, 1896, the DJIA (Ticker: DJI) was initiated by Wall Street Journal editor and Dow Jones & Company co-founder, Charles Dow. It is now owned by the CME Group Inc., the majority owner of both S&P/Dow Jones Indexes. The DOW’s average is price-weighted according to volume, with stock prices being adjusted for splits by using a scaled average. Its CFDs trade Monday through Friday, between 08:30 and 15:15 UTC.
